Rip Van Winkle here I come

Okay, I have a problem with my local oldies station.  Specifically they are not playing oldies.  They are playing music that was on the radio when I was in high school. Oldies are songs that came out before I was born.  Artists such as the Beach Boys, Elvis, the Beatles, and Beethoven are oldies.  Def Leopard, R.E.M., and U2 are not oldies.  Are they?
